Living the Yamas: Mindful Intentions for the New Year
The new year invites us to intentionally return to who we are. The yamas, the first of Patanjalis’ 8 limbs of yoga, are ethical roots which offer a steady compass for that return. Ahimsa reminds us to move into this year with kindness, especially toward ourselves as we grow. Satya calls us to live honestly, setting intentions that reflect our true values rather than outside pressure. Asteya encourages us to trust that we are not behind and nothing essential is missing. Brahmacharya asks for balance, guiding us to protect our energy and give it to what truly matters. And Aparigrahagently releases us from last year, making space for what’s next.
May this year be less about perfection and more about presence. Let the yamas be the promises you keep to yourself this year. These will shape a year rooted in integrity, self awareness and freedom to express yourself. Happy 2026!
