The Power of Love On and Off the Yoga Mat

This month, I’ve been surrounded by love. Friends preparing for weddings, hen parties filled with laughter, reunions with people I adore - everywhere I turn, I see it. Not just the romantic kind but the simple, powerful act of loving and being loved.

It has reminded me that it matters less what we love and more that we love. It could be a partner, a friend, a pet, a place, a passion, a moment of quiet in the morning light. Love doesn’t need a grand stage; it just needs our attention.

And yet, I’m aware that the world doesn’t always feel this gentle and loving. When we care deeply, it’s impossible to ignore the suffering we see in the news or in our communities. Our hearts can ache for people we’ll never meet, for places we’ve never been. Love can feel overwhelming at times.

But love, in all its forms, is not powerless. Even when it can’t solve everything, it can soften edges, bridge divides, prompt action and remind us of our shared humanity. No matter how much we give, there is always more. Love doesn’t deplete us - it expands us. The more we share, the more it flows through us, like breath.

When we come to the mat, we have the chance to pour some of that love back into ourselves. We move, breathe and listen inwardly. We refill the well from which our love flows.

This month, as I’ve watched people celebrate love in the forms of commitment, friendship, connection and many more, I’ve realised something simple: love is never finished. It evolves, it deepens, it shows up in so many ways and it will always continue to show up in ways we don’t always expect.

So, let’s keep loving - fiercely, gently, endlessly, knowing that the love we give the world will never stop flowing and long as we continue to show love to ourselves.
