The Heartfelt Story Behind Ajeet’s ‘Haseya’ and Its Message of Hope

Recently, I attended an Ajeet concert where she sang beautifully and shared the story behind her song “Haseya,” which touched me deeply.

Haseya is a word from an American Indigenous language that means “to rise” or “she rises.” The story goes that, in the past, when a woman of the tribe was going through a difficult time, the community would lovingly call her Haseya. It was their way of reminding her that she was in a transitional phase — that she would rise again — and they would support and carry her through it with compassion.

Let this story be a reminder for us to look out for one another — not only our daughters, sisters, and mothers, but also the people in our wider communities: our neighbours, fellow parents, yoga friends, and beyond.

May we remember to use our thoughts, words, and actions to contribute to the happiness, healing, and freedom of all.
