One Year of Yoga: Friendship, Community, and Shared Practice
This month marks one year since I started practising yoga, and it all began thanks to a gentle nudge from my best friend and housemate (who basically dragged me to that first class!).
Looking back, I’m so grateful she did. At the time, we had just moved to this area, and I couldn’t have imagined how much both yoga and the neighbourhood itself would shape my daily life. Long river walks and familiar faces at classes and cafés - it’s all become part of a rhythm that feels grounding and full of care.
They say that one of the purest forms of love is simply wanting someone to notice life with you, and that feels true in so many ways. It’s what my best friend did for me when she introduced me to yoga, and now I see it happening in my own Pilates classes - friends, partners, and families coming to move and share the space. It fills my heart every time.
Practising alongside someone you care about is such a simple but powerful act of connection. You notice your breath, your movement, and the quiet moments in between together.
I’m deeply grateful to have found a place like Oca, where community and movement naturally intertwine. It’s a space that celebrates these small, meaningful connections.
This November, I invite you to bring someone along - a friend, a partner, a family member - and notice life together on the mat.
See you in class,
Aurora 🌿
