Gentle Yoga for Seniors: Supporting Healthy Ageing Through Movement

I truly love teaching my elders class every Thursday. I’ve always felt that older generations can too easily be overlooked or pushed aside, and it saddens me when that happens. A healthy society should honour, care for and provide for its elders, they carry wisdom, lived experience and stories that enrich us all.

Every week, I leave this class with a renewed sense of respect and gratitude, for life, and for the human body. I’m continually amazed by its resilience, and by the reminder that no matter our age, the body requires ongoing care and attention to function well.

As we age, we naturally need to adapt how we move, exercise and look after this primary instrument of ours. If we push against the natural changes of ageing, forcing the body to perform as it once did, injury can follow. But when we adapt gently and wisely, this body can continue to support us and carry us forward.

It really is about balance, the yin and the yang. Strength and softness. Effort and ease.

I would love to grow these elders yoga classes at Oca because I see just how transformative they can be. Yoga, and movement in all its forms, is for every age, not just the young and sprightly. It is a lifelong practice, one that evolves with us and meets us exactly where we are.

Spread the word to your friends and family and see you in class.

With care,

Eve
