Persephone's Feast: Poetry, performance and pomegranates

Take a seat at Persephone’s table and feast on the nourishment of food, poetry, story, and shared creativity as we honour the turning of the seasons.

As part of celebrating International Women’s Day, The Women’s Fire invites you into a joyful evening of communal feasting and mythic remembrance. Inspired by the story of Persephone, through our creativity we honour the myths, stories and archetypes that have carried the power of descent and return.

Why Persephone?

Persephone is the playful maiden above ground and dark sensual queen below. Throughout winter we have been in Persephone’s underworld domain, crawling through the dark, curling up in caves, resting in the quiet of winter. Like Persephone herself, we have been shaped by what we’ve encountered there: grief and growth, endings and insight, hidden strength waiting to be claimed.

Yet the first signs of spring begin to stir, the light innocence of the maiden. So we gather to harvest the gold and glimmers from our time below and to prepare the ground for what is ready to rise. This is a space to witness each other's creative expression, to learn from our experiences of descent, darkness or time in the underworld whilst celebrating the emergence of spring.

What to expect

Feast: Persephone’s Feast is a co-created potluck supper. Each person brings a dish to share. Something nourishing, seasonal, comforting, or symbolic. Together we will create a shared table, rich with food and meaning.

Storytelling: To welcome us more deeply into embodying our own experiences of descent and return, there will be a re-telling of Persephone's myth to permeate our bodies, hearts and souls with the gifts of the underworld.

Co-Create Cabaret: You bring the entertainment! Alongside the meal, the evening will unfold as an immersive cabaret-style sharing with poetry, music, movement, ritual  and a few surprises. These offerings don’t need to be polished or perfect. They are about witnessing one another, listening deeply, and offering our creativity on the altar of our mythic muses.

Dress Invitation: You are warmly invited to come dressed in a mythic expression, honouring Persephone, the underworld, feminine archetypes or myths that represent the threshold between darkness and light, or perhaps your own descent and return.

The Practicals:

  • Arrive at 4pm sharp!

  • Bring something to contribute to the potluck.

  • Dress as your own mythic expression

  • Get in touch (info below) about sharing something in the co-created cabaret

  • This event is open to women's fire members and their friends

If you have something you’d definitely like to include in the cabaret, email alana@truenature.org.uk with a little description and any tech details/needs. There will be a spaces reserved on the night for impromptu offerings, but messaging ahead in advance with your expression of interest for sharing something will helps us plan accordingly and curate a journey of creative expression.

This is a feast for the senses, the soul, and the season, a remembering that spring does not arrive without winter, and that our descent has meaning. Come as you are. Bring a dish. Bring a story. Bring what winter has shaped in you. Spring is waiting.
