The Power of Pause: Mindfulness and Rest During the Busy December Season

Like so much in our day to day lives, December carries a dual energy: the rush of year-end plans, gatherings, and celebrations, alongside nature’s quiet call to slow down and rest. The trees are bare, days are short and nights are long. This contrast inspires me to ask: how can we create space for stillness, even in the busiest season?

Yoga teaches us that it’s not just the poses, but the pauses between them that matter. Even our constant life force, our breath, takes a moment to pause between each inhale and exhale. Noticing the moment of pause December feels like that pause - a chance for stillness, presence and growth. So this December, have the courage take not only rest, but pause and be present. With each passing year we are reminded of the impermanence of life and quickly the years can pass, so pause and soak up everything that this festive season may bring.

In a culture that often glorifies productivity, choosing stillness is a radical act of self-care. My hope is that you find small moments of calm - a quiet breath before bed, a few minutes of mindful stillness, or a supported pose that allows your body to fully let go.

May this December offer you not just celebration, but also rest, reflection and renewal.

With Love,

Leah
